![]() We put whatever we could in savings, but of course with rent and bills, it goes fast. We know we're not the only family to live this way. I have explicitly said we were living paycheck to paycheck. Our family members and friends are aware of our situation and are doing what they can to help us. WIC was the only assistance so far that came through quick. We're working on applying for assistance that we do qualify for, but they're backlogged, so they can't help us now until it goes through. We are very aware of the costs of managing my type 1 diabetes, having children, and any other necessary expenses. It may get you some store credit - essentially like a little instant rebate! If you end up having to transfer prescriptions around for the best price, it doesn't hurt to ask and see if the cheaper pharmacy has a transfer offer going as well. ![]() Also, prices do change frequently, so it may be worthwhile to recheck every couple of months. However, GoodRx cards cannot be dual billed unlike the manufacturer discount cards, so the COBRA copays will likely be cheaper while you still have it. GoodRx offers general-use discount cards and will direct you to the pharmacy with the lowest price. It's also worth checking the websites for any other medications that you might be taking that are brand-only, as many of them offer discount cards.įor generics or brand meds that don't have discount cards available directly from the manufacturers, I'd suggest checking out. It can also be used for a free box of syringes (either standard or pen needles, with a prescription) if you sign up for their diabetes tips. Yes there is! Novo Nordisk (the company that makes Novolog and Levemir) has a similar discount card on their website that reduces the copays for those two insulins to $25 for up to 2 years, or provide a discount of $100 per fill when your COBRA expires. I hope once we have the means, I'll be able to pay it forward. Thank you r/diabetes, you kept me (and the baby) healthy. You really helped me get through with these test strip supplies especially now that we're temporarily uninsured (probationary period), we are incredibly grateful. Until finally, he got a contract position at the end of October! He was unemployed since July 15th and finally started his new job November 2nd! Took him nearly 4 months, they were long, incredibly frustrating months. So he kept looking, so many employers were interested in him, but passed him over. This happened the same day I was in labor, so you can imagine our frustration. Update: Had my baby on August 22nd, she is healthy and perfect! Husband "got the job" that week, but they dropped the ball saying they can't officially hire him for several months, so they kept tabs on him. If you're interested, I'd be happy to update when things improve or even a birth announcement of our baby that's due in a few weeks, because you didn't only help one person, you helped our precious darling that is currently incubating as well. Thanks for being incredibly kind redditors. I will certainly pay it forward whenever the opportunity presents itself. I can't go too long between testing due to being pregnant, but this is what I'm forced to do at the moment.Įdit: I just wanted to share my heartfelt thanks to those who were able to help, even if they were only suggestions (and they were fantastic suggestions). ![]() So please let me know if you can help or if you even have some ideas on any other way to obtain this specific test strips. I feel that we are living on pure luck right now and that the timing of having no source of income is horrible. Our family is helping with what they can as well. I'm selling a bunch of things on Craigslist, I even sold unused gift cards, cut out a ton of unnecessary expenses, etc. Only actual assistance I have right now is WIC, which is definitely helpful. I have already applied for certain assistance, but it takes a long time for it to process. So I was wondering if anyone on here had any to spare or even sell for uber cheap (and hopefully I can afford the selling price). I'm fine on every other aspects on supplies, just not test strips. We do have Cobra that will be finished out by the end of the month, so I am able to fill my Rx, but we can't afford the co-pay at this time. However, doesn't mean we're not broke and that we shouldn't ask for help when we need it.Īnyway, we are scraping by. I don't doubt for a moment that he won't be able to find one soon, he is bright, resourceful, and a very well-liked man. He is working very hard on finding a job and even has an interview this week. My husband is currently unemployed (since mid-July and the job he had lined up fell through) and we were living paycheck to paycheck. I'm a stay at home mom and am currently pregnant with our second child.I'm having the baby in a couple weeks, possibly less.
